Invitation to Sponsor

The International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB) is a biennial event that brings together the university scientific community, research institutes and laboratories, as well as professionals, companies and governmental organizations linked to various sectors such as electric, petroleum and bioengineering, in order to introduce and debate new approaches, methods and applications of the so-called magnetic bearings and also of equipment whose operation principle involves the control of magnetic forces. Historically, the ISMB has been occurring every two years since 1988, as recorded in Table 1. Following this historical line, it can be seen that the initial development took place in Switzerland, USA and Japan. Brazil is no stranger to this research as, along several decades, the Brazilian Navy Technological Center (CTM-SP) has developed and used magnetic bearings for its ultra centrifugal for uranium enrichment. In addition to this successful experience, isolated studies are found in publications and master and doctoral theses from universities, especially UFRJ, UFF, UFRN, UNICAMP and USP.

Organizing Institution

The seventeenth edition of the International Symposium of Magnetic Bearings will be held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Rio de Janeiro. It is promoted by COPPE/UFRJ, being supported by SBA (Brazilian Society of Automation), SOBRAEP (Brazilian Association of Power Electronics) and CTM-SP (Navy Technological Center).

COPPE is the largest engineering and research center in Latin America. Headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, the institution has 300 full-time Ph.D. professors, 3,000 students and 350 staff members, including researchers and technical and administrative staff. Founded in 1963, under the leadership of the engineer Luiz Alberto Coimbra, a man ahead of his time, COPPE was the first postgraduate institute in engineering of Brazil. Since then, it stands out as a center of knowledge, qualified professionals and teaching methods, serving as a model for other universities and research institutes. COPPE’s academic structure includes 12 Programs in the Engineering Areas: Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Nuclear, Oceanic, Energy Planning, Computing, Production, Chemistry, Transportation and Electrical (PEE).

In its fifty years of existence, the PEE has trained about 1200 masters and 300 doctors and has dedicated special attention to the dissemination, in international magazines, of the main results from the defended theses (available in full text through the website http://www.pee.ufrj.br/tesis). The work of the PEE is enriched and complemented by cooperation with centers of excellence in different parts of the world, involving the development of joint research projects, doctoral traineeships (sandwich) and participation in courses abroad.

To spread the research results developed in universities, research institutes, companies and manufacturers related to magnetic bearings.

To promote integration between universities, research centers and industry to solve current and future problems where magnetic devices can be used.

To promote the interaction between students, researchers, engineers and other professionals working in magnetic bearings.

To attract new talents to the technological area.

To absorb technical knowledge through the interaction with experts of all over the world.

Target Audience

Professors, undergraduate and graduate students from Brazilian and foreign universities, especially those working in mechatronics, control and automation.

Business professionals who can take advantage of the operational advantages of magnetic bearings.

More than 200 people are expected to participate, among Brazilians and foreigners.

Event Schedule

The first activity of the event will include the reception cocktail for the participants on August 18th.

The plenary sessions and technical sessions will be held in the period from August 19 th to 21st, 2020. Six Key Note Speeches, or plenary sessions, are scheduled by renowned speakers for 60 minutes each. There are foreseen 36 technical sessions of 90 minutes, giving a total of 180 papers of several national and international authors.

Why Sponsor This Event

By associating your brand with ISMB17 and participating in the event, your company will:

  • Introduce your products or services to a select audience of the academia and of the job market.
  • Enhance your institutional visibility at national and international level.
  • Prospect and generate business by contacting the main users of your products in the market.
  • Connect with undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, entrepreneurs and successful professionals from all over the world, with whom strategic partnerships can be made.
  • Take participation advantages according to your contribution (see next page).

  • The exposition will be organized around the coffee break and lunch area, increasing the contact with the attendees.
  • The conference will be held at UFRJ Center of Technology and the exposition will be also open to all students (graduated and under graduated), professors and technical staff of the university, a public much greater than just the conference attendees.
